Dettling-KreuzOn April 1948 the newspaper “Das Schwäbische Tagblatt” carried a report about a tragic accident that happened during lumber work in the forest that lies between Salzstetten and Tumlingen.

„The 21-year-old, unmarried woodman Johannes Dettling incurred a fatal accident while felling trees. As he was inexplicably running toward a falling pine tree, he was struck on the head by a branch.“

Sixty-four years later a memorial cross continues to remind us of that event. The memorial was donated by the Kolping Association of Salzstetten. Our member Gerhard led us to this out-of-the-way location that is home to the Dettling memorial.
