The last big meeting took place in Gaienhofen at Lake Constance four years ago.
Salzstetten already was for the second time the place for our Dettling family meeting. This was obvious, because Dettlings are already situated in Salzstetten provable already since the 16th century. Local chief Karl-Josef Dettling and his wife Marga from Salzstetten organized the big family meeting, that one of also the founder of the „Familiengemeinschaft“ in 1986, Karl Dettling from Mühlbach at Eppingen, was attended.
Our chairman, Dieter from Würzburg, congratulated in the catholic town hall at first honorary chairman Karl as well as Anton from Freudenstadt to their 80th birthdays. The young historian Angela came from Switzerland, and she actually investigates the roots of the Swiss Dettling. Dieter also wellcomed Doris and Ed Bischoff from the USA. They had heard about the newly created website „www.dettling-familiengemeinschaft.de“ from the big family meeting in Salzstetten. Another about 80 Dettlings came from near and far.
Dieter reported, that a "family excursion" is offered meanwhile every year. The excursion took place in Würzburg as well as in Sinsheim, which was accepted by young and old members. Time does not get too long between the great meetings with that.
Dieter emphasised positively, that the „Familiengemeinschaft“ also has discovered the medium Internet for itself now. Andrea and Jürgen from Gärtringen as well as Jan from Pforzheim maintain and complete the webseite since spring 2008 constantly. A special grateful thank went to Thekla Dettling from Salzstetten which has produced the swan crest of the Dettling in arduous embroidering work and put it as liberal disposal for the „Familiengemeinschaft“.
Cashier Franz from Mühlbach reported of proper register conditions, in which the sale of the "Dettling family book", given out by Karl, has a great contribution. Andrea from Gärtringen, whose husband Jürgen is from Rexingen, afterwards reported about the construction of the web site.
On average, three enquiries per month came about the webseite since January 2008; the contact form was loaded down 19times. Meanwhile, the Internet makes new connections possible for the Dettling „Familiengemeinschaft“.
After the regulations in the agenda oft he meeting and having lunch together in the Catholic church hall, native country researcher of Salzstetten, Jürgen Erath, guided us through the „Schlössle“. Dettlingen's local chief Karl-Josef gave the interested members a better understanding of his hometown Dettlingen. Egon from Dettlingen showed the neighboring town with his known pilgrimage church. Siegfried finally took over the leadership by Salzstetten.
Siegfried himself played with his „Salzstetter Altmusikanten“ in the final of the meeting. For the end Dieter still could offer a quite special surprise. There is a famous brandy distillery at the Vierwaldstätter lake in Switzerland, whose best known product is the "Dettling-Kirsch". The old-established family-owned enterprise was sold to the German company "Underberg" some years ago. Andrea wrote to "Underberg", whether they might be active also in our family meeting. They provided some bottles of "Dettling Kirsch" for the Salzstetten family meeting free of charge.
